Apex Legends Ping Test
Measure your real latency to Apex data centers — then find out if it was lag, or you.
Region auto-picked from your location — tap another region to compare.
How this works: game servers don't answer web pings, so this times your browser's round trip to the game's regional entry point in the same city — the same network distance your game traffic covers. Warm-up first, then 4 samples, median shown.
What ping is normal for — Apex Legends
| Rating | Ping | How it feels |
|---|---|---|
| Excellent | 0–30 ms | As good as Apex gets. Your shots register when you fire them. |
| Playable | 30–60 ms | Normal ranked range. Movement tech still feels crisp. |
| Noticeable | 60–110 ms | Dying behind cover starts. Doors and zips get temperamental. |
| Unplayable | 110+ ms | The server is writing fiction about where you are. Change data center. |
Apex's servers famously run at a 20 Hz tick — a third of most shooters — which is why Apex ping feels heavier than the same number elsewhere: your client interpolates between sparse updates, so extra latency stacks on top of an already chunky simulation. It also makes data-center choice enormous; the game sometimes auto-connects you to a "close enough" center that is nothing of the sort.
Lagging? Work through this list
- Choose your data center manually — On the title screen, the bottom shows your data center and ping — open the data-center list and lock the lowest one instead of trusting auto-select.
- Turn on Performance Display — Settings → Gameplay → Performance Display: On. Live ping, fps and loss in-match, so you know mid-fight whether it's you or the server.
- Go wired — Apex movement is a chain of tiny inputs; Wi-Fi jitter breaks the chain exactly when you superglide.
- Avoid peak-hour far lobbies — Playing with friends two regions away means someone eats 120 ms. Rotate who hosts the pain.
- Close downloads and cloud sync — One background update plus 20 Hz servers equals a very bad evening.
- Use QoS — Shared home networks are Apex's natural predator. Prioritise your machine.
Frequently asked questions
What ping is normal for Apex Legends?
On your nearest data center, 20–50 ms is typical. Under 30 ms is excellent, under 60 ms is proper ranked range, and past 110 ms the 20 Hz servers make everything feel underwater.
Why do I die behind cover in Apex?
The classic Apex question. Low server tick plus your ping means the server's picture of you lags behind your screen's picture of you. Lower ping and closer data centers shrink the gap — they never fully close it.
Why is my in-game ping different from this test?
This test reaches the regional entry point in the data center's city; your match server is one specific machine behind EA's routing, and the in-game readout adds server processing. Same baseline logic: high here, high there.
How do I see ping in Apex?
Enable Settings → Gameplay → Performance Display for an in-match readout, and check the title screen — your current data center and its ping are printed right there.
Does packet loss matter in Apex?
Hugely. Loss in Apex looks like hit-reg refusals and enemies teleporting mid-beam. The performance display shows loss as a percentage — if it's above zero at home, suspect Wi-Fi first.
