Rocket League Ping Test
Measure your ping to the Rocket League regional entry point — then find out if it was lag, or you.
Region auto-picked from your location — tap another region to compare.
How this works: game servers don't answer web pings, so this times your browser's round trip to the game's regional entry point in the same city. Treat it as a rough reference only — real matches follow the publisher's own routing to a specific match server, so the in-game number usually differs. Calibration from side-by-side tests: for the same region, numbers here typically run about 30-80 ms above the ping shown in game, and on some entry points the gap can approach 100 ms. Trust the ranking between regions, not the absolute number. Warm-up first, then 6 samples, median shown.
What ping is normal for — Rocket League
| Rating | Ping | How it feels |
|---|---|---|
| SSL Hands | 0–35 ms | Crisp 60 Hz physics, flip resets land clean, kickoffs feel honest. |
| Champ Lobbies | 35–70 ms | Totally playable — slight ball ghosting on fast plays, nothing you cannot adapt to. |
| Coinflip Kickoffs | 70–120 ms | Touches feel delayed, 50/50s turn random, fast aerials get scary. |
| Blame the Lag | 120+ ms | Ball teleports, demos come from nowhere — get the certificate, you earned it. |
Rocket League runs on dedicated servers with the full physics simulation handled server-side, and the ball you see is your client predicting between server updates. That is why high ping does not just delay you — it literally puts the ball somewhere it is not, which is what makes timing flips on lag feel impossible.
Lagging? Work through this list
- Queue only your closest region — In the playlist menu, uncheck every region except your nearest — one far server in the pool ruins whole sessions.
- Set Input Buffer to STS — Settings, Gameplay, Input Buffer: STS (Simultaneous) gives the most responsive feel on stable connections.
- Ethernet is non-negotiable for kickoffs — An ethernet cable is the biggest upgrade that is not a new monitor — kickoff timing dies on WiFi jitter.
- Cap FPS to something stable — Wildly swinging framerates fake lag symptoms; a locked 144 or 240 makes real network issues obvious.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good ping for Rocket League?
Under 70 ms plays great; under 35 ms is where mechanics feel perfect. Above 120 ms the ball stops obeying physics you can see.
Why is my ping different from what the game shows?
This test measures the round trip from your browser to our regional entry point, not to the game servers themselves. Treat it as a rough reference — in practice it usually reads about 30–80 ms higher than your in-game ping. Compare regions by rank, not by the absolute number.
Why does the ball teleport on high ping?
Your client predicts the ball between server updates, and big corrections snap it to the real position — that snap is the teleport you see.
Should I use a VPN for Rocket League?
Only if your ISP routing to Psyonix servers is genuinely broken; otherwise a VPN just adds a hop and more ping.
